Would you like to plant a tree at Rutgers?
Rutgers campuses provide many opportunities to study and observe New Jersey’s diverse plant palette. From Voorhees Mall to Passion Puddle, members of the Rutgers community, as well as the public, enjoy a wonderful collection of shade trees and evergreen species. The Commemorative and Memorial Tree Program plays an important role in helping to replace trees and plant new ones at Rutgers. Here are the specifics of the program:

• Individuals or groups wishing to have a commemorative or memorial tree planted at a Rutgers campus should contact the Office of University Planning and Development at 732/445-2430 and speak to the senior landscape architect (ext. 669) or the university horticulturist (ext. 504). A list of potential locations and tree species will be provided to the donor for selection.
• The cost of planting a memorial tree is approximately $1,200. The cost reflects the tree’s purchase, soil preparation, planting, and perpetual care. All gifts are processed through the Rutgers University Foundation.
• A metal tree tag noting “In Memory of…” or “In Commemoration of...” and listing the tree genus and species, along with an identification number, will be attached to the tree for educational and inventory purposes. (Rutgers does not allow plaques to be installed.)
• A recognition web page will be created for each tree donated; donors will have the chance to provide a photograph and text for inclusion on the recognition page. Donors will also be acknowledged through a web-based listing of trees donated as part of the program.
