How are trees selected?
Trees are selected based on their hardiness, longevity, and the needs of the site selected for planting.
When are the trees planted?
Planting will take place during the spring (April 1st – May 15th) or fall (October 15th – November 30th) planting seasons.
What happens if the tree dies?
If a tree does not survive, the university will replace the tree one time.
Can I arrange a small dedication ceremony?
Small ceremonies may be arranged by the donor. Information will be provided once a donor has made a commitment to planting a tree at Rutgers.
Can I request a specific site to have a tree planted?
Special requests for planting trees at specific sites will be considered. If the site selected is inappropriate, the program coordinator will propose an alternative location.
Can I select the variety of tree to be planted?
Requests for particular tree varieties will be considered.
What is the typical planted size of the memorial trees?
The average planted size will be 2 1/2" - 3" caliper; height will vary by species. Requests for larger trees may be arranged. The cost of larger trees will be determined at the time of securing the actual plant material.
Who receives the payment?
Checks should be made out to the Rutgers University Foundation with a notation stating Commemorative Tree Program. |
